Let’s harvesting from your schoolyard!
Connecting children with a natural way of food production, that is the essential of the little food forests (voedselbosjes). Each forest consists of more than 20 different species Together they grow into a real bush.
IVN started a movement to green schoolyards with ‘’Voedselbosjes’’ all over the Netherlands. Children help planting the forest and during the years they will learn about it and harvest more and more. By visiting big Food Forests in their region children will experience the difference between their own small forests and the extended ones. The Voedselbosjes contribute not only to the connection between children and natural food production, also they are excellent places for butterflies, birds, bees, little mammals and humans! The food forest provides leaves, fruit, herbs and nuts. That means healthy, fresh picked food from the forest. Rainwater sinks into the ground and the quality of soil increases. Together with local and regional partners IVN started with 29 Voedselbosjes in 2020, and wants to realize more than 1000 in a couple of years.
