Pieter Sluis
For twenty five years, Pieter was the beloved family doctor of the village of Niewkoop.
A tall man with kind eyes, he has devoted his life to bringing heart and soul back into health care, living out his motto, 'It's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.'
Pieter has helped initiate many valuable projects in Holland. Just to name a few: the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Foundation, the Dutch Hospice Movement, the Health Care Forum and the Maia Foundation. Now retired, he spends his time writing books, giving workshops with his wife, Christien, and traveling. Pieter is a wealth of wisdom and kindness which the StartFund treasures.

Karin Jurgens
Karin founded a small hospice in Amsterdam that offers guests a warm and caring atmosphere. She is actively involved in the Hospice and acknowledges that her volunteer work is very rewarding. This only helps her appreciation of others who also have the courage to take steps in making this world a better place. Karin brings her much heartfelt experience as an active member of the Startfund committee.

Chris Matser
Chris was born in the United States and has lived in Australia and Europe, where she raised her family. During that time she also renovated old houses for resale. Realizing her dream, she moved to Hawaii, and studied healing arts and spirituality.
Chris and Fred met in San Francisco and in a very short time, they discovered they wanted to share the rest of their lives together. Chris’ move to Holland included the challenge of trying to learn Dutch. Over time she began to understand the wealth of the many projects that Fred has initiated. We are happy that Chris chose to become our newest member of the Startfund. She brings her unique sense of humor, honesty and practical observations to the committee.

Jan Ebeltjes
Jan is a modest, hardworking, multi-talented Dutchman.
He brings a diverse background of music, business and IT to the Fred Foundation.
One of Jan’s many passions is his work, helping others to have a better life.
He doesn’t blink an eye to drive 3000 km to the Ukraine, where he is fondly known as 'Yanosh'. Where Janosh sees a need, he does his utmost to find a solution. Whether it’s to improve the lives of orphans, to provide heating for psychiatric patients, or to repair used computers for students in Eastern Europe.
Jan is driving force behind the Startfund. His big heart and determination are a blessing to the Fred Foundation.
