WASTED - 2015
In partnership with Fred Foundation, CITIES Foundation is realising a pilot project that aims to activate the community to act upon their awareness of the world's plastic problem.
WASTED is a local solutions initiative, realized through a community Laboratory for small-scale plastic waste reprocessing located in Noorderpark, Amsterdam Noord.
The goal is for the WASTED Laboratory to be an engine of both material and social design, where the social benefits of local neighborhood activation coincide with and enforce the aim of setting new sustainable standards for product design.
To achieve this goal, the Laboratory hosts design and co-creation workshops for the neighborhood, where new sustainable material is produced and (re)processed into WASTED Blocks. These Blocks are used to generate new and useful objects for the community (think tables, chairs, flowerpots and more).
WASTED is made possible by working with local community and businesses to collect and reprocess plastic, while also collaborating with designers to co-create new materials.
